SAGE GROUSE NOT TO BE LISTED
SEPTEMBER 22, 2015

The Gooding SCD has spent many long hours  working with US Fish and Wildlife Service, Office of Species of Conservation and local landowners on the Candidate for Conservation Agreement for Assurance's (CCAA) template.  The District was looking to be the sponsor or permittee holder and would then be the one working specifically with participants on a plan to get assurances.  It has been a work in progress meeting every other month to go over the template making changes to make it ours.  ON September 22, 2015 a decision came down from Secretary of Interior - Secretary Sally Jewel Not to list the Sage Grouse.  This was great News!.  However, the District believes it's still worth completing and moving forward if and when we can.  Landowners are in a holding pattern until they see what the BLM and others do as it will affect there management.

The Gooding Soil Conservation District is one of fifty-one districts in the  State of Idaho whose purpose was mandated by the U.S. Congress to promote the  conservation of natural resources and provide local leadership that strives to  mold conservation with sustainable agricultural through a group of local  volunteers  who are elected by the general public to serve as the Board of  Supervisors.

SAGE GROUSE MEETING NOVEMBER 2014!

The Gooding SCD held a meeting to inform local landowners of the issues concerning the listing of the Sage Grouse and how it could affect their personnel property.   Presenters were Katie Powell,  and Jason Pyron US Fish and Wildlife Service - NRCS biologist and Steve Thompson NRCS.  It was a great turnout and many questions were asked and answered.  The District hopes to continue work with the USFWS on a plan for a Candidate  Conservation Agreement with Assurances being the sponsor) to allow those landowners interested in signing up to work with the District.
