Warm Cover Crop Planting 2017!

The Gooding SCD partnered with the University of Idaho Extension Agency to do more warm season cover crops, demonstrating the importance.   Above you see Becca Flick and Mario DeHaro both from University of Idaho calibrating and calculating the seed needed for the area.  The 1st of May we took a soil samples and then planted  May 26th of 2017.
The Districts hope is to build back the soil health.  This year we planted a  mixture of Hairy Vetch, Nitro Radishes, Purple Top Turnips, Japanese Millet .

The District got 2 cuttings from this successful cover crop mix and hope to plant again next year to improve soil health. 

COLD COVER CROP 2017!
The cool cover crop that was planted last November in the corn plot was not a success.  Apparently the rain and snow was too much.  This year we planted more cover crop in May to simulate the cool cover crop idea before the corn was planted to give the appearance.   On the other half of the plot where Woodland has his  round up ready corn was okay because they could spray and kill the grass and weeds.
This year we planted the cool cover crop October 13th in hopes that it will come up in the spring, and we want to plant into the cover crop!  Workshop on this summers events Thursday, October 26th .
